Lent Walk and Night at the Movies
Representatives of the senior clergy of Cumbria are visiting the Kirkby Lonsdale area on Saturday 24th and 25th March as part of a Lent Walk. Details of the walk are below.
On the Sunday evening Bishop James is hosting “A Night at the Movies” in the Royal Barn from 19:30. He will be reviewing clips from Billy Elliot; Mr Holland’s Opus; Saving Private Ryan; The Pianist; Gladiator; Shawshank Redemption; Matrix; Forrest Gump; The Mission. Themes include what film does (e.g. touching emotions and raising issues) and why it matters.
Sunday 24th March
15:00 The Wash Tubs, Barbondale (SD656828) – Walk to St Bartholomew’s, Barbon with +James - Bishop of Carlisle and Rev’d Sarah Moore - Cumbria United Reform Church Pastoral Convenor
15:45 Tea and cake at St Bartholomew’s Church, Barbon Ⓣ (Depending on time they may walk from Holy Trinity, Casterton or be driven to-)
17:00 Devil’s Bridge – Walk along the river, up the Radical Steps to -
17:30 St Mary’s Church Ⓣ
19:30 “A Night at the Movies” with the Bishop of Carlisle (details above)
Monday 25th March
08:15 Breakfast at Lunesdale Bakery with +James
09:15 Prayers at St Mary's Ⓣ, walk out past Ruskin’s View to Kearstwick
10:15 Walk from St John's, Hutton Roof over Hutton Roof Crags to Grid Ref 544780, join the bridleway SW into Slape Lane (this is muddy in places and probably not suitable if the weather is too bad)
11:45 St James Church, Burton in Kendal and Handover to Kent Estuary Team.
All are welcome to join us on the walk on any part. You will have to make your own arrangements to get to and from the walk starting and ending points. We will try not to leave any of the timed points early.
